Arctic Textile Mills FY2026 Results: Margin Improves, Cash Flow Weakens

ARCTM stayed profitable and improved gross margin in FY2026, but revenue fell 30%, operating cash flow nearly vanished and short-term debt increased.

Arctic Textile Mills Limited (ARCTM) remained profitable in the audited year ended June 30, 2026, but the quality of the result was mixed. Revenue fell 30.4% to PKR 1.901 billion and profit after tax declined 25.5% to PKR 76.4 million. The important counterpoint is that gross margin improved to 8.65% from 7.33%, so profit fell less sharply than sales.

Verdict

This was a resilient but not strong result. ARCTM protected a larger share of each sales rupee at gross-profit level, kept finance cost almost flat and reduced other expenses. Those improvements cushioned a steep contraction in turnover. They did not prevent operating profit, pre-tax profit and earnings per share from declining by roughly one-quarter.

Cash quality was the bigger concern. Net cash generated from operations was only PKR 0.7 million, down from PKR 145.8 million, while capital expenditure reached PKR 126.2 million. A new PKR 100.0 million short-term borrowing funded most of the gap. Cash ended lower, receivables rose sharply, and the current ratio remained below 1.0 despite improving.

Evidence coverage is PASS WITH DISCLOSED LIMITATIONS. The PSX filing provides audited profit-or-loss, financial-position, equity and cash-flow statements. It does not explain the FY2026 decline in sales by production volume, utilization, selling price, product mix, customer geography or yarn category. Those operational causes are therefore not asserted as facts.

What improved

Gross margin recovered despite lower sales

Cost of sales declined 31.4% to PKR 1.737 billion, slightly faster than the 30.4% fall in revenue. That lifted gross margin from 7.33% to 8.65%. The PKR 27.9 million reduction in gross profit was therefore materially smaller than the PKR 831.7 million contraction in turnover.

This is the clearest operating positive in the result. It shows better unit economics in aggregate, but the filing does not say whether the improvement came from cotton or polyester input costs, energy efficiency, product pricing, mix, utilization, or procurement. The defensible conclusion is limited to the arithmetic: a smaller share of revenue was consumed by cost of sales.

Other income and expense control helped

Other income rose 23.3% to PKR 10.9 million. Other expenses declined 30.6% to PKR 8.4 million. Distribution cost was broadly stable at PKR 6.0 million, up only 1.7%, while finance cost increased just 1.9% to PKR 2.2 million.

These lines helped absorb part of the gross-profit decline. Finance cost remained small relative to operating profit during FY2026, so financing expense was not the main reason earnings weakened. The deterioration originated primarily in the reduced scale of the business and the resulting decline in gross profit.

Equity strengthened

Total equity increased 20.1% to PKR 514.5 million, supported by the year’s profit and other comprehensive income. Unappropriated profit increased to PKR 210.3 million from PKR 116.6 million. The company did not distribute a dividend, so earnings were retained in the business.

Current liabilities fell 5.5% to PKR 307.3 million, while current assets rose 4.7% to PKR 278.9 million. The current ratio improved to approximately 0.91 times from 0.82 times. That is progress, although current assets still did not fully cover current liabilities at year-end.

What weakened / needs attention

The revenue contraction was severe

Sales fell by PKR 831.7 million in one year. Because the filing does not provide production, utilization, selling-price or customer-mix data, it is not possible to separate weaker physical demand from pricing or mix effects. ARCTM manufactures and sells yarn and also trades fabric and made-ups, but the reported result does not provide segment revenue or profitability.

The decline also changes the longer-run picture. FY2025 sales had risen 51.0% from PKR 1.810 billion in FY2024. FY2026 revenue then fell back to only about 5.1% above FY2024. This suggests that the FY2025 scale-up was not sustained, though the public filing does not establish why.

Administrative costs moved against the sales trend

Administrative expense increased 21.6% to PKR 51.5 million even as revenue fell 30.4%. Distribution and administrative costs together absorbed 30.1% of gross profit, compared with 24.1% a year earlier. Gross-margin recovery therefore did not translate into stronger operating earnings.

Profit from operations fell to PKR 109.4 million from PKR 148.7 million. Operating margin improved slightly because revenue contracted faster than operating profit, but absolute earnings capacity weakened. Profit before tax fell to PKR 107.2 million and the effective tax charge was about 28.7%, close to 30.0% in FY2025.

Operating cash flow almost disappeared

Net cash generated from operations was just PKR 0.7 million versus PKR 145.8 million. The largest drag was a PKR 121.9 million reduction in trade and other payables. Trade receivables absorbed another PKR 34.8 million, while tax payments used PKR 42.8 million. A PKR 42.0 million release from long-term deposits and prepayments partly offset those pressures.

This matters because reported profit did not convert into cash. Cash generation before working-capital and other movements was healthy, but the release of supplier financing and increase in customer balances consumed it. The result does not disclose a receivables ageing table or customer concentration in the five-page announcement, so collection risk cannot be quantified further here.

Investment was funded with new borrowing

ARCTM spent PKR 126.2 million on property, plant and equipment, compared with PKR 130.2 million in FY2025. With operating cash flow near zero, the company raised PKR 100.0 million of short-term borrowing. Cash consequently declined by PKR 25.5 million to PKR 57.8 million.

The new borrowing equalled about 19.4% of year-end equity. This is not an extreme leverage ratio, and finance cost remained low during FY2026, but the funding structure weakened: a long-lived capital programme was supported by short-term debt while operating cash conversion was poor. The next set of accounts should show whether that borrowing is temporary working-capital support or a persistent source of funding.

Balance-sheet movements

Total assets increased 8.4% to PKR 965.7 million. Property, plant and equipment rose to PKR 672.1 million from PKR 587.7 million, consistent with continued capital expenditure. The asset base expanded even while sales contracted, which lowered implied asset utilization.

Trade receivables increased 74.8% to PKR 81.3 million despite the lower annual revenue base. At the same time, trade and other payables fell 36.6% to PKR 206.3 million. This combination explains much of the cash-flow squeeze: more capital was tied up with customers while less financing came from suppliers.

Cash and bank balances fell 30.6% to PKR 57.8 million. Current assets remained below current liabilities by PKR 28.4 million, although the gap narrowed substantially from PKR 59.0 million in FY2025. Liquidity therefore improved on a coverage ratio but weakened on cash generation.

Historical perspective

ARCTM’s three-year record shows uneven scale and profitability. Revenue was PKR 1.810 billion in FY2024, surged to PKR 2.733 billion in FY2025 and retreated to PKR 1.901 billion in FY2026. Profit after tax moved in the opposite direction across the period: PKR 119.4 million, PKR 102.5 million and PKR 76.4 million.

Gross margin fell from 12.65% in FY2024 to 7.33% in FY2025 before recovering to 8.65% in FY2026. The latest improvement is encouraging, but margin and earnings remain below FY2024 levels. The pattern reinforces why one year’s better gross margin should be weighed against lower sales, weaker cash conversion and declining absolute profit.

AlphaGen model scores

These are AlphaGen model outputs, not figures reported by ARCTM and not investment recommendations.

Alpha QoQ Score: 57.75

TTM Performance Score: 12.46

3Y Business Perf Score: 6.99

Sector Leadership Score: 27.57

The scores tell a consistent story. The latest-quarter reading is materially better than the trailing and three-year readings, while sector leadership remains modest. That mix fits a company showing some margin resilience in the latest period but weak longer-run earnings momentum and cash conversion.

What to monitor next

Revenue stabilization. The first priority is whether sales recover from the FY2026 decline without reversing the gross-margin improvement.

Gross margin. Holding above 8.5% would show that the latest cost-to-sales improvement was durable; a return toward the FY2024 level would be more meaningful.

Receivables and operating cash. Customer balances rose sharply and operating cash flow was almost nil. Collections need to improve for reported profit to translate into liquidity.

Short-term borrowing. The PKR 100.0 million balance funded most of the investment gap. Repayment or refinancing from internally generated cash would improve balance-sheet quality.

Administrative efficiency. Overheads rose despite lower revenue, so expense discipline is necessary if turnover remains subdued.

Production and utilization disclosure. Future reports should be checked for spindle utilization, yarn production, product mix and selling-price commentary; none was available in the result announcement used for this analysis.

Bottom line

ARCTM preserved profitability and improved gross margin in FY2026, but it did so on a much smaller revenue base. Lower other expenses, higher other income and modest finance cost softened the impact, yet profit after tax still fell one-quarter.

The central question is cash quality. Near-zero operating cash flow, higher receivables and new short-term debt offset the benefit of stronger equity and a better current ratio. A stronger next result would combine stable margins with renewed sales, positive operating cash generation and reduced reliance on short-term borrowing.
